Made with Willowgrove Hill nutritionally enriched smoked bacon and ground sausage.

Serves 18 to 24

This simple sauce is ideal for a crowd.  It’s hearty, filling and can accompany any pasta of your choosing.

¼ lb Willowgrove Hill smoked bacon
½ lb Willowgrove Hill ground sausage
1 ¼ lb lean ground beef
1 cup chopped onions
½ cup chopped green peppers
3 cloves garlic, minced
2 796 ml cans Italian tomatoes
2 170 ml cans tomato paste
1¼ cup dry red wine or water
2½ tsp dried oregano
2½ tsp dried basil
1 bay leaf crumbled
¾ cup water
¼ cup chopped fresh parsley
1 tsp dried thyme
1 Tbsp salt
¼ tsp pepper

Brown bacon in a skillet until crispy. Remove and set aside.

Crumble ground beef and sausage in the skillet and cook until brown.  Stir in onions, green peppers and garlic.  Cook 10 minutes.

Pour tomatoes into slow cooker and crush with back of spoon.

Add all other ingredients, reserving ¼ cup of the wine, in slow cooker.

Cover.  Bring to boil on High.  Reduce heat to Low for 3 to 4 hours.

During the final 30 minutes of cooking, stir in reserved red wine.

Cook your preferred pasta according to directions on the package.  Drain, add sauce and call your hungry family to the table!
